Run To Crater Lake
Run To Crater Lake

Saturday September 22nd, in the early hours of the morning, twenty one folks in eleven Corvettes, met up for a run to Crater Lake. First stop was Shy's Cafe in Shady Cove for breakfast, the first of three meals that day. Great food, and a beautiful "helper" coffee server, left us all stuffed and ready for the road.
On the way to Crater Lake, we stopped at one of those neat places, marked by one of those brown "tourist" signs, that we normally whiz right on past. The stop was at "The Natural Bridge", a place where the Rogue River, on it's way down the mountain, goes underground, through some old lava tubes, and emerges again about 250 feet later. It is a beautiful spot, and well worth the stop.
Then on up to Crater Lake. This is Oregon's premier National Park, and it is unique in the world. Formed many years ago when Mt. Mazama literally blew it's top. After the volcano stopped doing it's thing, and the interior of the cone slowly subsided, a lake was formed that to this day is one of the bluest, clearest lakes on earth. A magnificent example of nature's handiwork, and a great place for a picnic lunch. (Meal #2)
After many photos, it was off to The Lodge at neighboring Diamond Lake. A beautiful spot for fishing and camping in the summer, and snowmobiling in the winter.
Next stop, another "Brown Sign" place, Mills Creek Falls, just outside of Prospect. A bit of a hike to the falls, but well worth the effort, for a view of some really pretty waterfalls in a pristine forest setting. The hike helped build our appetite for our next stop, (Meal #3).
Meal #3 for the day was at Miguel's in Eagle Point where more members of the club who couldn't go on the Crater Lake run, joined us for our monthly social. Almost forty club members ate mexican food until we were absolutely stuffed. So we concluded a really wonderful day of driving, sightseeing, socializing and Eating!!
